Haiku Salut are Gemma Barkerwood, Louise Croft and Sophie Barkerwood and last year they were commissioned to compose the score to Buster Keaton's 1926 masterpiece, The General. The band have been gradually teasing tracks from the resulting 23 track double album, and "Firewood" is the latest offering. It's an uplifting piece which straddles the line between low-key and orchestral, gradually building up the layers into something that is undeniably cinematic.

Here's the latest sneak peak from Ivan The Tolerable's forthcoming mega-double-album Rations, this one under the guise Ivan The Tolerable & The Elastic Band. Ivan The Tolerable is the long running recording alias of Middlesbrough's Oli Heffernan and the album sees the project expanded to a full band for the very first time (hopefully with live dates too).

Lineup of dreams alert! King Champion Sounds return to Newcastle on Saturday 18th May. The dutch-anglo band's ecletcic punk-jazz clout, the Cluny 2's intimate space and a hefty PA are sure to  produce a sound that will literally take your face off. And not only that, support comes from top drawer local talent Swine Tax and Roxy Girls (who have just signed a deal with top drawer indie label Moshi Moshi records). Its one of those bills that you CAN NOT MISS.
